A Tabloid History of Birdwatching grew out of thirty years working on newspapers as a cartoonist and birdwatcher. Having written a history of tattoos, I thought it was time to expose ornithology to similar treatment. Historically the world of birds has taken itself rather seriously, and I hoped – following in the footsteps of  great comedians like Sir Peter Scott and Michael Gove -to offer an irreverent view of the subject.

My illustrated talk will draw on images from the book as well as other visual sources. There will also be extracts from my old birding notebooks, political cartoons and gags.

The book has been favourably reviewed by such behemoths as Bill Bailey and Stephen Moss!

This will be followed by the opportunity to purchase and have signed Paul’s publications.
