Rewilding Britain present: Chris Packham hosting Helen Meech, Derek Gow and Simon Barnes – Bringing nature to life, restoring living systems
Sponsored by Canon UK Ltd
In the Events Marquee, 7.30pm, Friday 19th August 2016
Chris Packham interviews a panel of experts, exploring what Rewilding Britain means to them, for conservation and how you can get involved.
So what is rewilding? It’s all about bringing nature back to life and restoring living systems.
Rewilding offers an ecological restoration plan focusing on the long term and seeing things differently, taking a new approach to the natural world and allowing nature to thrive. The ambition is for a radical change in how we work with nature in Britain, including the reintroduction of long lost native species.
Many well-known British species have declined catastrophically over the past century. We’ve lost more of our large mammals than any other European country except Ireland.
It’s all about bringing nature back to life, restoring living systems and securing positives such as clean air and water, carbon storage and flood control. With the disruption caused by localised extreme weather, rewilding can help by preventing flooding, storing carbon and helping us adapt to climate change.
Rewilding Britain is essential to stop the decline in nature. It offers a positive vision of nature for parts of Britain’s land and seas which have been in decline for too long. It seeks to improve public understanding of the living world and our place within it.
"Rewilding holds out hope of a richer living planet that can once more fill our lives with wonder and enchantment”
“Wolves, lynx and other magnificent missing species would revitalise our living and enrich our lives.”
