Martin Hughes-Games

Martin is well known as one of the presenters of the BBC’s highly successful live“Springwatch / Autumnwatch / Winterwatch” shows which he co-hosts with Chris Packham and Michaela Strachan. 2015 will be his 7th year co hosting these shows. Martin also produced and presented the offshoot programme “Unsprung” from its very first transmission until trying to do both became a bit too much for him to handle! What is less well known is that Martin also worked on the shows as a producer. In fact martin enjoyed a 30 year career as a BBC producer / series producer before stepping out in front of the camera. This experience – on both sides of the camera – gives Martin an almost unique insight into the business of making successful Television programmes.

He has presented hour long documentaries (eg Natures Miracle Babies BBC1), half hour shows for BBC and Discovery (most recently “The Lion Queens” – about the awesome women forest guards in India’s Gir National Park). A huge number of short form films for the BBC watches, for regional television and Children’s TV (“Evolutionwatch” BBC Scotland) as well as being involved in full-on live television presenting for 7 years so far.

Martins interests stretch beyond wildlife (he is a fully qualified Zoologist) He is a qualified rope technician and keen climber, a passionate motorcyclist  (raced successfully on UK tracks for 6 years). He has just published his first book (“A wild life” an entertaining and information packed account of his 30 years filming wildlife around the world) and is busy writing his second book.
