Mexico is home to between 90-120 endemics species, most of which are tied in some way to the numerous mountains of Mexico.

[1] The country is 2,383 miles [3,835 km] from North to South.  The massive land mass area of Mexico is 761,605 sq mi (1,972,550 sq km).

[2) The Tropic of Cancer runs through Mexico.  Temperate Forests characterize 725 miles of Mexico that lie north of 23.5 degrees latitude.  Tropical habitats encompass 2,000 miles of Mexico south of line.  The temperate zone species breed in the Boreal Summer [May-July], tropical species breed in response to rainfall [winter-spring].

[3] The third tallest mountain in North America is in Mexico, Pico de Orizaba (18,491 feet/ 5636 meters). Mexico has twenty-seven mountain ranges within its borders with average elevations of between 4,921–9842 feet (1,500–3,000 meters).

[4] Mexico has 145 IBA’s within it borders, and depending on taxonomy is home to between 90-120 endemics species, most of which are tied in some way to the numerous mountains of Mexico.  China, with a similar number of endemics, is the only country north of the equator with more bird species than Mexico – 1,250 verses 1,150
