The USA’s 50th state is the world’s most remote archipelago and a volcanic hotspot, but it’s also a hotspot for endemic birds. Its isolation and volcanic origins define Hawaii making it a wonderful laboratory for seeing evolution in action.

All the native animals in Hawaii arrived either via wings, water or wind. In this lecture we will take stock of what makes Hawaii so utterly unique and take a close look at its many endemic and highly endangered birds.
